We live in Henrietta, NY, a suburb of Rochester. It’s a small town, known for its retail stores and chain restaurants. Everyone comes here to eat and shop! We are also known for our Memorial Day Parade. This is held every year on Sunday, the week before Memorial Day. It usually lasts about an hour, with many local High School bands, organizations, clubs and most anything you would expect in a small town parade.
We have the bagpipers, the drum & bugle corp, and all the children’s sports teams, too!
And we have clowns!
Sometimes they stop right in front of us and give us a little show!
Of course, there are a lot of fancy cars, Politicians, and firetrucks! One of the favorites of the children is the mini cars doing figure eights. And bands, quite a few bands!
Another favorite of the kids is all the candy everyone tosses out! It’s just like trick or treating! Notice the candy stuck in the cup holders on the chairs above!
Our family has made it a tradition to get together at our home and have a Red, White & Blue picnic in the back yard. Each family brings something to eat that is red, white or blue. Then we head over to the parade. We return to our place for some dessert – usually for the adults, as the kids have filled up on candy!
It is a great family day around here! I highly recommend attending, if you are in the area! If you are not in our area, be sure to check with your local town, chamber of commerce, to see what’s available in your area!
